2 Corinthians 6:14 “Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?”
1 John 2:15–16
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
Believers are commanded to reject the sinful values, desires, and practices of the world and to live in wholehearted devotion to Christ.
Unfortunately, many Christians have not fully separated themselves from the values of the world and the sinful desires of the flesh. These influences still occupy a prominent place in their lives and seek to control them, both physically and spiritually.
You cannot belong wholly to Jesus Christ while deliberately maintaining an attachment to the sinful patterns He has called you to leave. Scripture describes friendship with the world as hostility toward God, and it warns believers not to let sin reign in their mortal bodies.
This is what many Christians are involved in: professing devotion to Jesus while still clinging to the values and practices of this present world, saying, “It doesn’t matter.”
This is where the mentality of “it doesn’t matter” originates, even when God condemns the very things being tolerated.
Before you can walk faithfully with Jesus Christ, the Head and Bridegroom of the Church, you must separate yourself from the things that offend your relationship with Him.
There is no fellowship between light and darkness, and there is no agreement between Christ and Belial.
Have you ever seen someone running a race while looking back and still making it successfully to the end?
Jesus said, “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Satan does not want to see people living in freedom from his influence, so he uses worldly pressures and sinful desires to draw them away from the race set before them. He knows that friendship with the world is opposed to friendship with God, yet he continues to work to keep worldly desires in the hearts of believers and weaken their devotion to Christ.
Believers must separate themselves from the sinful values of the world in order to grow in Christ. Scripture calls us not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. The influence of the world subtracts from our spiritual lives and hinders our obedience to God.
Before we came to Christ, we lived according to the course of this world and the desires of the flesh. But God brought us out of darkness and into His marvelous light. Therefore, we must not continue to embrace the patterns of life from which Christ has delivered us.
Paul applies the illustration of a dead spouse to our release from the law through the body of Christ so that we may belong to Him. This passage is not teaching divorce, nor does it say that the flesh is a husband who must be divorced. Rather, it illustrates a change of spiritual allegiance through union with Christ.
Through Christ’s death and resurrection, believers are to regard themselves as dead to sin and alive to God. We must therefore refuse to let sin regain dominion over us and instead present ourselves to God for righteousness.
Yet many believers continue to revive the sinful patterns that should have been put to death. Through our attitudes and choices, we can allow sin to regain influence over us, even though we have been called to walk in newness of life.
Our former relationship with the world’s sinful values should not be romanticized or restored. Having been crucified with Christ, we are called to set our minds on things above and to put to death what belongs to our earthly nature. This is spiritual separation from worldly values, and it is part of living faithfully for the Lord who redeemed us.
God wants to protect you as a father protects his son, but you cannot hold on to His enemy and demand that kind of protection. You cannot hold on to what He detests and still expect His sovereignty to operate fully in your life.
You need to come out from among them and be separated. Total separation is what is required to remain under His shadow.
Separation from the world and its entanglements. Separation from worldly values and from all the things that are attractive to society but detestable in God’s sight.
Entertainment and sports can become part of these entanglements when they become objects of obsession. Being obsessed with the things that Satan uses to hold humanity in bondage is part of the problem. Alliance with the world means compromising your faith.
Everything that Jesus Christ never did should not be the measure of your faith. Stop comparing yourself with others. Jesus Christ is our standard.
Stop looking at other Christians as the measure of your faith. Follow the steps of Jesus Christ, because He is the Author and Finisher of our faith.
That is when you will know whether you are on the right path or not. The one you follow determines your destination.
All these worldly values you’ve hold in high esteem is what Satan will use to disqualify you before the throne of judgment, God is a just God, he act according to his word, even Satan know this, only Christians wouldn’t want to know.
Satan knows his properties, but why would Christians decide not to acknowledge it?
Whichever of his properties in your luggage becomes a point of contact to disqualify you from entering heaven, Whichever of his properties has his mark on it with a demon attached, and no unclean things will enter His presence.
Total separation is what God needs from his people; a leg inside and another one outside puts you in an odd place in his presence; you’re not different from lukewarmness, and neither cold nor hot shall be spewed out of his mouth.
If you follow the world, you will perish with the world, for the world is passing away with all its lust. But those who abide in Christ will live forever.
Prayer: Father lord. Keep me by your side in this eternal race; don’t let me fall by the wayside, and separate me from all entanglements that want to stop me by your power, in Jesus name, amen.
