Galatians 3:13–14 «“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hanged on a tree. That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”»
The death of Jesus Christ on the cross signifies deliverance from the curse of the law. This redemption extends to the Gentiles who come to Jesus Christ by faith, enabling them to inherit the blessing of Abraham.
Christ also cancelled the handwriting of ordinances that stood against us and was contrary to us. He took it out of the way and nailed it to His cross.
Jews and Christians alike are no longer under the condemnation associated with the ceremonial requirements of eating and drinking, but under the law of Christ, to which we are subject by following all the commandments of Christ.
The law of God placed everyone who refused to obey it under condemnation. Disobedience to even the least commandment was still disobedience.
That is why no one could enter God’s presence after death. They were kept in paradise below, by the side of Hades, under the earth, awaiting the atonement accomplished through the blood of Jesus Christ before they could be transferred into the presence of God.
No one on earth is perfect. Some were declared righteous because of their faith in the Word of God, yet humanity continued to walk according to the corruption of its own imagination.
Jesus Christ came to bring humanity to perfection before God, so that we would no longer depend on the law for salvation, but on the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, who can save to the uttermost those who believe in His name.
The Bible says that from the days of John the Baptist, the kingdom of God suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
During the time of the law, when God’s commandments were given to guide His people, many still went astray. They could not keep the law because humanity was living according to the flesh and not according to the Spirit of God.
Under the law, if a man lusted after a woman but did not physically go in to her, the act itself was not treated in the same manner as the physical act of adultery. A man could also marry a woman, provided she was not already married.
But in the time of grace, it is not like that. Jesus Christ raised the standard. Looking at a woman lustfully is already a matter of the heart, and such a person will answer before God in judgment.
You do not need two or three human witnesses, because the presence of God sees what is hidden. Nothing can be concealed from Him, and every offence committed against His name will be brought into judgment.
We are no longer living under the law but have been transferred into the kingdom of light, where nothing is hidden from His sight, and everything will be judged accordingly.
God has abolished the traditions that treated certain foods as permanently unclean. Whatever is sold in the market can be eaten, with thanksgiving, according to the freedom we have in Christ.
Yet unfortunately, many have established boundaries that God did not establish by treating certain days as holy, celebrating new moons, or observing Sabbath days as though these things were requirements for righteousness, when God has already sanctified His people unto Himself.
By doing so, some become alienated from the faith and return to practices that belong to the shadows rather than the reality found in Christ.
The things that were shadows of the manifestation of Jesus Christ have now found their reality in Him. Yet many are attempting to bring the shadows of the Old Testament back into the practice of the New Testament faith.
What the devil could not accomplish in the time of the law is now being introduced into the new faith, with the effect of making the work of Christ of no effect.
God spoke to our fathers in the Old Testament through the prophets and through the appearance of angels, but now He has spoken to us through His Son. Unfortunately, men have diverted from the true God to the worship of angels and voluntary humility, puffing up their fleshly minds and bringing humanity back under principalities and powers that have already been defeated through the cross.
We are dead to the law with Christ and have been delivered from the rudiments of the world. Why, then, are we still living as though we are subject to ordinances?
Some churches are now introducing the Old Testament, mixed with the New Testament, into the gathering of believers, placing people under commandments and ordinances that are rooted in human traditions.
Old wine cannot be put into a new bottle, nor can new wine be put into an old bottle. Yet this is what is happening in the worship of the living God.
The law that has been fulfilled in Christ is being brought back into our relationship with Him, placing people under condemnation instead of leading them into the liberty of the gospel.
When we give more honour to Satan than we give to God, we become idolatrous. This is what happens when we exalt practices, traditions, ordinances, or anything else above the finished work of Christ.
This is what following the law while abandoning the work of Christ can produce.
Everything related to the law and everything spoken by the prophets is subject to the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We are no longer under the law or the prophets as the basis of our righteousness, but by faith in the eternal Word, which is Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for blotting out every handwriting of ordinances that was standing against me by nailing it to your cross, in Jesus name, amen.
