Deuteronomy 30:19 «“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that thou and thy seed may live.”»
Blessing or cursing, life or death, all depend on the power of choice.
The choices you make determine your destination in life. Many people make choices without considering where those choices will eventually lead. The beginning of a journey does not necessarily determine its end. If you begin with God in view, you can finish with His approval.
Everyone has a choice to make from the beginning of their life journey. No one has a monopoly over another person’s choices.
Moses placed a blessing and a curse before the children of Israel, but he pleaded with them to choose the blessing by obeying God’s will, so that they might enjoy the land God was taking them to.
That is how it is for those on their way to the Promised Land. The Word of God has been placed before us to guide us throughout the journey. What we choose to obey will determine the outcome.
Your decisions do not affect you alone. They can have consequences that extend through your generation, until God decides to have mercy on your children and grandchildren.
Many affected by inherited curses continue to experience the consequences of their ancestors’ sins until they make the right decision and refuse to eat the sour grapes their forefathers ate.
When you follow the ways of your progenitors instead of following Christ, you will face what your ancestors faced.
It is only when the power changes hands that the curse shall be broken.
Unfortunately, many Christians still follow the ways of their fathers instead of abiding by the Word of God. They follow traditions and find themselves in the same cage where Satan held their forefathers.
Not every pleasant way ends in pleasure, for there are ways that seem right but end in destruction. Every sin listed in the Bible carries its consequences.
God has placed before us life and death, blessing and cursing. If you believe in the only begotten Son of God, you have life; but if you do not believe, you remain under the wrath of God.
Instead of abiding by all the law of God to be blessed and live, it is now faith in the Son of God that brings life.
When you have faith in Jesus Christ, you have been removed from the curse of Adam and brought into the blessing of God without resistance.
This faith is faith in God’s Word and in who He is; faith in God’s faithfulness; faith in His character; and faith in the atoning work of Christ, His death, and His resurrection.
Some believe in Jesus Christ but do not believe in His Word. Had they truly believed in His Word, they would have obeyed it without complaint.
That is where curses and death crept in. Whichever area you refuse to follow His Word gives room for the angel of death to have preeminence and brings you under the curse that follows disobedience.
Most deliverance sessions would not have been necessary if we had abided in Christ’s Word and obeyed His commandments. Many would have been delivered if they had faithfully followed the Word of Christ without passing through the deliverance process.
Obedience to His Word brings deliverance, while disobedience brings a curse. Obedience is always better than sacrifice. Your offerings and tithes cannot substitute for obedience, nor can your church activities substitute for the will of God.
A cursed life is a sign of disobedience in one area or another of God’s Word. It is a sign that you are yet to surrender completely to the power of the cross.
The journey of the Christian is to bring us into the rest of God. Many are not entering that rest while alive because of unbelief. Though they follow Christ, they are not fully submitted to His Word.
Until we bring every thought and imagination into captivity to the obedience of Christ Jesus, we will not be ready to avenge all disobedience when our own obedience is unfulfilled.
That is when you will be able to bring your life under the blessing of Abraham, when no generational curse of the covenant will have dominion over your life. Your life will no longer be under the control of the flesh, but under the authority of the living God through Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Father lord, by your mercy, remove me from the curse of my family and the curse of the law, in Jesus name, amen.
