Luke 12:15 ( And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth)
Money or materials are not God and can’t compete with him, those who worship money will know at the end of their life that it ends where it started.
Why must you replace God with money or materials? Whatever you acquire here will end up here, and it won’t accompany you to the grave. You won’t have access to it in the afterlife; then what is the essence of trading your eternity for things that don’t add value to your existence?
It’s what God deposited in you before you were born that defines your identity, and that is what leads you into possessing the things you acquired on earth, not your possessions that define your identity.
The Bible says, your life doesn’t depend on your earthly acquisition, those who depend on their earthly achievements commit suicide when they lose all, they think their life is without meaning when they lose it all to circumstances.
Some people lose their hunger for God after they have achieved their heart’s desire, as if that is the reason they came to Him in the first place.
Whatever reason that brings you to God is the same thing that will make you stop following him the moment you get it, or make you lose reverence for him if you have not gotten it.
It’s only those who serve him for whom he is that remain in God even if they are stripped of all their earthly possession.
The time is coming when God will remove all that you rely on that makes your life spin to prove your loyalty to him and see if you’re truly serving him.
This is where most Christians failed, for there are many who serve God to please their spouse, if their spouse deserted them, they turned their back on God.
This means they love their spouse more than God, some stop going to church because they went bankrupt, which indicates they love their wealth more than God.
The moment you place God in a second position in your life, you have given Satan an avenue to take the lead and impose his ideology on your being to destroy your life completely.
Christ came to be the first and the last, the alpha and omega of your destiny, God will deal with whatever you place first to remain all in all over your situation and be the preeminence over all who truly belong to him.
It’s a dangerous thing to lay up treasure for yourself on earth without being rich towards God, it will separate you from God’s love for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Those who have their treasure built up in heaven will have their heart panting after God and will always look forward to the day they will meet with him up there.
Whatever you covet after separates you from God, it might be money or materials, it might be post or hierarchy, it might be a leadership position like James and John.
The law against covetousness is among the ten commandments, Jesus Christ warned against it in the new testament, its a poison that leads to jealousy and hatred and can lead to murder just like Cain and Abel.
This is the sin committed by the devil in heaven, he coveted God’s throne and ended up having God’s contempt and desire to usurp the throne in heaven, which led to rebellion with one third of the angels being chased out with him.
He transferred the spirit into Eve during the conversation with the serpent. They too want to be like gods when God has already made them in his image, which kind of gods took their attention that made them jet off the image they were created to be?
I wonder which image is more glorious, the image of God or the gods, demons in human form?
There are trees in the gardens that are good for food and good to behold more than the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but the fact that the serpent added that it can also make one wiser, they coveted the wisdom of the serpent more than the wisdom given to them by God which they can operate in his image, and end up below what God created them to be.
Instead of retaining the image of God in them, and being wise in God’s knowledge, they turned to be like the devil demonstrating the seed of the serpent the works of the flesh which made them remain under the authority of the devil, instead of them displaying God’s wisdom to exercise dominion over all things created by God, they displayed the wisdom from beneath, that is Satan’s craftiness, not God’s wisdom.
They were not satisfy the way God made them, which made them covet what is out of their reach, which led them to inherit the curse of death that belongs to the devil for they covet his attributes instead of God’s.
Covetousness and greed led Satan out of heaven, likewise it lead our first parents out of God’s Eden and chased them to the earth to till the soil before they could eat, covetous wont add to you but make you lesser than what you’re created to be.
Covetousness makes you a slave of your desire and it’s only those who desire to be like God that will be like him if they follow his footsteps.
Jesus Christ warned us to beware of covetousness because it mars his image in man, it makes him see us the way he sees Satan, because out of it spring the root of bitterness to produce the fruit of sorrows.
Prayer: Father give me the spirit of contentment that’ll make me be in agreement with what you created me to be in life, in Jesus name amen.
