THE PROPHETS OF GOD AND THE PROPHETS OF BAAL – BIBLE STUDY SERMON

1 Kings 18:19: “Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto Mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table.”

There are two kinds of prophets revealed in the Bible: the prophets of the Most High God and the prophets of Baal.

Both may stand before an altar. Both may speak about the supernatural. Both may claim to have power. Both may attract crowds.

But they do not dine at the same table.

The source of a man’s power determines the spirit behind his ministry.

The prophets of Baal ate at Jezebel’s table. That was where they drew their power. But the prophets of God eat at the Lord’s table. They draw their strength from the presence of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.

So I ask you:

Where do you draw your spiritual strength?

Is it from the feet of Jezebel or from the feet of the Lord Jesus Christ?

The prophets of Baal dined at Jezebel’s table. Their supposed anointing was connected to fornication, adultery, sodomy, the abuse of little children, and satanic altars.

They sucked the breast of their so-called mother to draw the spirit of prophecy.

But the prophets of God draw their anointing from the presence of Christ. They eat the flesh and drink the blood of Jesus Christ. They sit daily at His feet to receive the Word and the message they must deliver to the people of God and to the world.

They do not manufacture messages.

They speak the Word put in their mouths by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The prophets of God are the oracles of God. They speak the mind of God. They interpret the Bible as it is. They expose the implications and consequences of sin. They proclaim the reward of righteousness and the blessings of living in God’s will.

They do not direct men to themselves.

They direct men to the cross of Calvary, where the sinner can have his sins washed away by the blood of the Lamb.

But many Christians have mistaken the prophets of Baal for men sent by God simply because of the gifts they exercise at the altar.

This is how strange fire is brought upon the altar of God.

This is how demons are invited to take control while ignorant men call it the power of the Holy Spirit.

Satan knows that many people no longer have an interest in consulting herbalists. So he is bringing herbalists in suits into the church.

He is bringing them to the altar to demonstrate their power, while ignorant men label that power as the power of the Most High.

Remember Simon the sorcerer.

He displayed supernatural power to such an extent that the people believed he was the great power of God. But when the apostles arrived, the spirit behind his power was exposed.

The fact that a man possesses supernatural power does not mean that the power is from God.

Gifts do not prove the source. Fruits reveal the tree.

Those who are possessed can exercise demonic gifts to deceive innocent souls who are ignorant of their identity in Christ.

This kind of prophet draws his power from the table of Jezebel. He dines with evil spirits daily and then comes before the people to perform supernatural acts.

But the Bible says:

“By their fruits ye shall know them.”

Many cannot discern because they focus on the gifts more than the fruit. They see the manifestation and ignore the character. They see the power and ignore the doctrine. They see the prophecy and ignore the life of the prophet.

And through hypocrisy, they are led away.

The prophets of Baal are the ones lining up at the entrance of a politician’s office to prophesy to him in exchange for a fat envelope.

Instead of preaching repentance, they see visions of enemies who want to truncate his position.

Instead of calling a sinner back to God, they tell him that members of his family are the reason he has not prospered.

Instead of exposing sin, they manufacture enemies.

Instead of preparing souls for eternity, they help men pursue the world.

What is the chaff to the wheat?

What relationship does the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ have with visions from the table of Queen Jezebel?

What does God’s message have to do with an unrepentant soul, other than to call that soul to repentance?

The prophets of Baal prophesied in Baal and caused the people of God to err against Him.

They were never in God’s counsel to know His mind. They prophesied according to their own folly and made men sin against God.

They told those who despised God that they would have peace.

They told those who walked after the imagination of their hearts that no evil would befall them.

But a true prophet cannot give peace to a man who is at war with God.

I have not seen them winning souls to Christ among their admirers. But they take pictures with them and display their connections with the high and mighty of society.

Their greatest testimony is not the number of souls they have led to Christ, but the number of powerful men they can access.

But where is the gospel?

Where is repentance?

Where is the cross?

Where is the burden for the souls of men?

I have never read where Jesus had a dialogue with the political kingdom of His day in order to secure its favour.

It was on the day He was arrested that Herod came to know Him, even though Herod had been looking for Him.

Jesus did not need the endorsement of the kingdom of this world to fulfil His ministry.

A prophet sent by God does not need the approval of sinners to remain faithful to God.

The prophets of Baal have no message for sinners in society.

How will they have a message when they themselves are yet to understand repentance?

It is what you have that you can give.

If you are yet to repent, how do you know the way of repentance? How can you tell others how to walk on the path to Calvary when you have never walked that path yourself?

A prophet who has never learned at the feet of Jesus has nothing to offer mankind but woes.

It is at the feet of Christ that God trains the men He sends to the world. They are sent from His presence, not from the world.

The prophets of Baal eat at Jezebel’s table to prophesy.

They drink and smoke weed before mounting the pulpit to prophesy. These are some of the things served at that table.

I heard a man confess that he could only prophesy after drinking alcohol.

And ignorant people who believe in prophecy more than they believe in the Word of God kneel before him to receive prophecy.

What a tragedy!

The Church of God has allowed agents of darkness to take over the pulpit because of the power they display.

But power without holiness is not the power of God.

Manifestation without truth is not the Holy Spirit.

Prophecy without repentance is not the gospel.

Most of them are anointed by the dragon to increase the population of hell by distributing the mark of the Antichrist and leading souls to eternal destruction.

If you follow a false prophet, even in ignorance, you must understand the danger of where that path leads.

The lake of fire was prepared for Satan and his angels.

Do not allow a false prophet to lead you there.

God gave the Word, and blessed are those who publish it.

The prophets sent by God become His oracles. They publish His Word to the world.

They do not add to it to please men.

They do not remove from it to protect sinners.

They do not twist it to gain political favour.

They do not dilute it to attract crowds.

They speak what God has commanded them to speak.

Elijah thought he was the only prophet who remained in Israel after Jezebel had silenced the prophets of God.

But God told him that He still had seven thousand prophets who had not bowed their knees to Baal.

The majority may bow, but God always preserves a remnant.

Most prophets in this country have bowed their knees to the powers that be.

Some have bowed to men to obtain favour and rise higher among the prophets.

Some have joined cults to initiate their gifts from the devil.

But God is still training His prophets in His quarry.

God cannot use a man He has not trained.

If you see a man who says he is born again and, after six months, takes up the mantle of a prophet, such a man must be examined carefully.

Either he does not understand the meaning and mission of a prophet, or he wants to activate the demons within him.

A prophet is not made by ambition.

A prophet is not made by a title.

A prophet is not made by wearing a clerical garment.

A prophet is not made by possessing supernatural abilities.

A prophet is made by God, trained by God, broken by God, and sent by God.

It is those who have discernment who will understand this mystery.

It is those who have an ear to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying to the churches who will not follow this dangerous trend.

The prophets of Baal draw their anointing from fornication, adultery, and sodomy.

They visit graves to tap anointing from the dead.

This is the kind of food served at Jezebel’s table.

They do this to draw souls into the traps of Satan. They make men bow under their anointing, worship their manifestations, pursue signs and wonders, and become captives of the dragon.

Run away from them.

Come out from among them.

They have nothing to offer but the destruction of the soul.

They have nothing to give but the mark of the Antichrist.

They have no power to save.

They cannot lead a soul to Christ because they themselves have not come to Christ.

The blind cannot lead the blind to the cross.

No soul can be saved under a ministry whose source is the table of Jezebel.

Such ministries only lead their captives deeper into deception, submit their souls to Satan, and register their names in the book of destruction.

There are still prophets who have not bowed their knees to Baal.

There are still men who will not sell the Word of God for money.

There are still men who will not exchange the anointing for political favour.

There are still men who will not bow before Jezebel.

There are still men who will sit at the feet of Jesus, receive the Word from His mouth, and proclaim it without fear.

The question is not whether a man can prophesy.

The question is: Which table is he eating from?

The table of Jezebel or the table of the Lord?

The power of Baal or the power of the Holy Spirit?

The spirit of deception or the Spirit of truth?

By their fruits ye shall know them.

Prayer: Father lord, guide your people to your presence by the power of your Spirit in Jesus name amen.
