GOD’S COMMENDATION – BIBLE STUDY SERMON
Romans 12:10 ( Be kindly affectionate one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.)
In the time of John the Baptist, hardly anyone would see who displayed brotherly love with Jesus and preferred one another above themselves. This character is what made him preferred above all who were born of women, and the greatest among the prophets.
How many Christians would prefer others in honour instead of themselves, in a world where many arrogate to themselves titles which they are not?
Jesus commended John the Baptist for his humility displayed in putting Christ first and making himself of a lower rank than him, which is what he truly is.
How many ministers in this generation have chosen to prefer others more than him, even those with little anointing, they are trying to show off to the world that they have arrived, if you ask him to honour his senior in ministry, he will think they count him as nothing important.
I heard from one so-called new generation ministers that made a derogatory comment about a senior man of God who is older than his father, and many are laughing at his foolishness, no one controls him from his stupidity.
This is who we are, the Pharisees were so jealous of Jesus Christ’s ministry that they dissuaded people from following him, and whoever tries to confess him shall be trusted out of the Synagogue.
When John’s followers asked him about Jesus Christ when his disciples were baptising people, he told them categorically that he is not the one, that he must decrease but Jesus christ must increase, this is the great example of humility displayed by a man, how will he not be the greatest prophets acknowledged by God, his type is difficult to find among men not to talk amongst the children of God, because everyone want to shine, nobody want to recommend anyone apart from himself.
No wonder some come out of another denomination to establish their ministry, they don’t want to serve under anyone, thereby creating confusion in the kingdom, everyone wants to be called Father G.O. or Mummy G.O. Do you think this likes belong to the kingdom where humility is the key to the gate?
John introduced Jesus Christ to the world and disappeared from view, the Bible says, ” The least in the kingdom of God is greater than John the Baptist, this meant that the level of your humility must be greater than that of John if you actually belong to the kingdom of God, let christ increases in you and let you decrease, and let the Lord lead and you follow.
Do you think it is possible like this in this generation of competition whether spiritual or secular? ” I have the largest congregation all over the world” my church auditorium is the largest”.
I received thousands call everyday “, am the most sought-after and popular pastor” the most listened to gospel musician, “the richest gospel preacher in the world”.
This is all that we are after that brought us to the lowest pedestal than John instead of climbing higher in humility and by admitting to our frailty.
This means that whoever exhibits this trait are no where near the kingdom not to talk of entering, they might not be far from the kingdom but they never get inside it.
The road to the palace is through the servant quarters , we need the humility of the cross to enter the kingdom, John hadn’t yet experienced the cross, but the least in the kingdom has experienced the potency of its power that slays the works of the flesh and leads one straight to the presence of God.
Many are striving to enter but they couldn’t, they couldn’t bow down to fit themselves into the eye of the needle and they missed the way to his presence.
The person they called least amongst disciples is the greatest, the one who released himself to serve is the master, the one who seeks the honour of others above himself is called the greatest by God.
Men love to glory in vanity and love the praises of others more than God, they neglect the greatness of the kingdom to seek the greatness of the world, if your status is below that of John, you are yet to enter the kingdom of God.
The Bible says, ” God gives grace to the humble and look at the proud afar off, it’s your humility that’ll make Him acknowledge you and recommend you for greatness.
He who was crucified without pity shall be raised without measure.
Prayer: Father lord, give me the grace to humble myself to fit into your purpose for my life, in Jesus’ name amen
