Luke 9:57 ( And it came to pass, that as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou guest.)

There are three categories of people who want to follow Christ, he calls some while others decide to follow him; either one of the two the answers remain the same. Jesus ‘ answer to the first person is that ” birds have their nest and the foxes have their holes, but the son of man has no place to rest his head.

His answer revealed what is hidden in his heart, he chose Christ for convenience not for necessity, if things go haywire he is ready to backside.

This kind of follower won’t be able to deny themselves if circumstances demand, he won’t be able to deny himself the pleasure, which works against his spiritual progress, he will like to choose where to sleep if he’s called on assignments, eat whatever pleases him, and drink whatever he likes in the process of working for Jesus Christ.

They are the ones who choose what meets their pleasure and financial gratification in all aspects, not where God wants them to be at a time.

Christ knows this beforehand and tells the man categorically that he doesn’t live for pleasure, he sleeps where his ministry led him, till he achieves what he came to the world to do.

He told the man that foxes of the forest have a hole, birds also have a nest, but the sons of man lack all these, so he should think twice before proceeding to follow him.

Preaching the gospel requires sacrifice, if you can’t make a little sacrifice, how will you make the greater ones? Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice, but it’s needed on your side to deny yourself of anything that can make your brother sin and make you forget so quickly what you are called to be.

Can you do it if God asked you to wait in his presence for forty days without any sexual connection with your spouse?

I wonder how Moses’ wife coped when he was always in God’s presence.

This is a sacrifice on his side, he loves God more than any carnal pleasures, this is what is needed from Jesus followers to love him more than anything or the pleasures of the world.

I heard of a pastor who always goes about with his partner in sin whenever he was going for ministration, he said he must have sex before receiving anointing from above, I am not sure where such a kind of anointing came from; it’s only God that knows.

If you’re not ready to meet with this condition, I don’t think you want to become one of his disciples. These are the type of Christians who choose the greener side to minister, if they are transferred to a remote area, they start grumbling as if it’s not God they are working for, he is the one who chose where his name will be glorified, not you.

Another one that Jesus asked to follow him was demanding to go and bury his father first, but the lord replied to him that let the dead bury their dead.

That kind of Christian needs to do away with the traditions of his family background, he is tied down with his family culture which has not enabled him to do as the lord will.

The answer of, ” let the dead bury their dead” is to make him forget the past and focus on only one thing, preaching the gospel.

The dead clothes of traditions and culture need to be buried, the grave clothes must be removed permanently to be able to stay with the living.

If you have been quickened from the dead through the work of regeneration and still have grave clothes wrapped on you, you’re nothing different from the dead.

Following means abandoning human traditions which might become a clog in the wheel of your spiritual progress, no one is tied to the past that will ever move forward to the place of glorification..

The past has held many captives, they worship the dead by frying cakes and buns for remembrance, many Christians decorate the corpse with costumes which will later be consumed by maggots.

They borrowed to put their men in the grave and Satan used this avenue to accuse them before God.

All the rituals we performed for the dead make us live in the midst of the dead, it’s only the followers of Christ that are qualified to preach the gospel not the followers of the dead.

Let the dead bury their dead means that, let those who are spiritually dead bury their physical dead, those who hates the gospel are all spiritually in the grave, those who hate christ chose death themselves, and let them go and bury their dead, for they are in the same category, but let the followers of Christ chose the way of life that will remove them from the congregation of the dead…to be continued
