Jeremiah 42:17 ( So shall it be with all the men that set their face to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them)
Physically, the land of Egypt represents slavery and bondage, since the beginning of time, God was never interested in his people going there, Abraham went there, and he ended up lying about Sarah being his wife, likewise, Isaac was commanded by God not to go down there even in the time of famine.
It represents a place of comfort, provisions, and amusement, a place of civilization for the people of the world.
But spiritual Egypt is the world and sin, rebellion against the commandments of God, a place of servitude representing slavery and bondage, and worldliness, which we are all in. Still, the mercy of God found us out as he found the Israelites out on the day of Pharaoh and commanded them not to look back at Egypt but to proceed forward to the promised land.
Likewise, as we are redeemed from sin, sanctified by the blood of Jesus, Christians are forbidden not to look back but proceed to the presence of God, the place of destiny fulfillment.
The word of God never changes it’s the same yesterday today and forever, as he spoke to Moses concerning the Israelites, he spoke to the prophets and also to the people of God in this generation, that Egypt is a no-go area in whichever circumstance a child of God should find himself.
If you have been redeemed, it means that your redemption is permanent, it can’t be reversed, the carryover of Egypt must not follow you to your promised land, else it will become a thing of offense on your journey and also a stumbling block to your destination.
The warning of the Lord to the children of Israel is whatever situation they face after he has redeemed them from Egypt, they must not make a decision to return there.
God pronounces judgment on any disobedient children who would ever think of going to Egypt for a better life, even though they will find compromise there in the time of trouble.
Going back to Egypt is like spitting on God’s face who brought them out in the first place.
He took them through the Red Sea as a covenant of perpetual separation from the land of bondage, even if they wanted to go back to Egypt through the Red Sea, there was no way to get there, the border was closed forever.
Children of God has been redeemed by God from sin and it’s repercussions with the bondage attached, he redeemed us and baptized us with water as a sign of covenant for our allegiance to the kingdom of God, the signs of crossing over into a new life in God, the warning is that nothing should join us with the world and sin whatsoever, as we face Calvary we turn our back to the world of sin and unrighteousness.
It’s forward ever and backward never in the journey of salvation.
There is nothing you face on your salvation journey that can be compared to what is waiting for you when you get back there.
Had the Israelites find their ways back after their redemption is perfected, have you wonder what the Egyptian will use their eyes to see, Had God not closed the way to the red sea, what do you think would have happened, will the next pharaoh look at them with pitiful eyes and treat them with compassion after they have already ruined their chariot and end their pharaoh inside the red Sea.
So also it won’t be possible for Satan to spare whoever had escaped from his stronghold to let him live a normal life again.
Returning to Egypt is a mockery of the work of salvation and trampled in the blood of the lamb that set us free, that is why there won’t be redemption again for a Christian that forsakes the gathering of the saints and finds his way back to the arm of the devil for Jesus Christ can’t be crucified the second time.
He has trampled on the blood of Jesus Christ the second time to crucify Jesus again and put him to open shame.
The judgment upon those who go back to Egypt is severe and God himself will see to their punishment.
Judas Iscariot is one of those who dine and sup with Jesus but still went behind to turn his back on him and reveal him to his enemy, a backslider has chosen wrong from the beginning as he doesn’t have the love of God at heart.
All those who murmured against Moses that they preferred to die in Egypt and eat cucumber and garlic than to perish in the wilderness perished there in the wilderness as they predicted because they lacked faith in the God who brought them out of Egypt.
Even the signs and wonders of parting the Red Sea didn’t move them to believe, so there is nothing God can do since they have set their mind to go back, they’re not worthy of the milk and honey of the promised Land.
If you notice a Christian who always weighs his life with when he was in the world with when he is born again, who always ruminates and rejoices in his former sinful state that he had forsaken, not remembering to thank God for what he has done, that kind of person will surely go back to his vomit, no matter the plea.
Those who go back to their sin have already killed Jesus Christ in their heart the second time, they openly mocked and disgraced him in the midst of unbelievers.
God vowed to destroy any Israelites who went back to Egypt with famine, sword and pestilence, so also he will destroy those who tried to make e mockery of the blood.
A person that is already been regenerated won’t go back there, he has tasted the heavenly gifts and made partakers of the Holy spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the power of the world to come, he would have known the difference, but if it happens that they fall away, it won’t be possible to renew them again to repentance, seeing that they have crucified the son of God the second time and put him to open shame.
Whoever says that he is born again and want to change to another religion, that kind of person are yet to know the Lord, they are yet to be redeemed in first place.
The Bible says, Taste and know that the Lord is good, If you have ever tasted the goodness of God and the power of his salvation, you won’t try to go back, because you know that Jesus Christ is all that men need to make it in life without any addition…to be continued
Prayer: Father Lord keep me safe in you till the end of my life journey, in Jesus name amen.
