Matthew 6:24 ( No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate one, and love the other, or else he will hold to one and despise the other. Ye can not serve God and mammon)
The error many prosperity preachers make is deceiving people into believing they can serve God and mammon together, which results in serving two masters, and most of their followers believe this to be so.
But Jesus said it is not possible to serve two masters. Either you will love one and hate the other, or you will be held unto one and despise the other. This is the reality of life. Until we face and accept it as it is, it will be difficult to excel in the spiritual aspect of life.
If greed takes over a soul, there will be no place for anything else to dwell. Even greed drives the love of family away from the heart, not to talk about the love of God; nothing matters to those who are possessed by it.
When God takes over the sanctuary of the heart, He takes preeminence and leaves no room for Dagon to inhabit. Those who think they can serve God alongside other things will eventually have their lives torn between two worlds.
God wants no rival. When He takes over your life, it becomes His own, and He becomes your inheritance. You cannot drink from the water of life and remain thirsty, nor can you partake of the living bread and remain hungry.
This is the true life of those who serve God; they won’t be thirsty after other things since God in them fills all in all.
Those who are still thirsting after other things are yet to know God. This is a sign of those who are far from His grace. They are still struggling to get food from the crumbs that fall from the Master’s table, concluding that if one doesn’t work, they will have another option as a replacement.
That is why you will see adherents of the prosperity message living as though the Word of God is far from their hearts. They take Him for granted. Everything they do tends to please the world and its lusts rather than please God. They end up saying, “It doesn’t matter,” because they do not have the love of God in their hearts. Lack of love for God is the origin of this phrase, “It doesn’t matter,” which has deeply embedded itself in the Church of God, since the church of this age has lost its first love.
It is a lack of love for God and His Word that creates this slogan. Had they loved God, they would not have treated His Word lightly. Those who love God are godly and will never allow anything to create a rift between them and God.
Some people are still in darkness, though they mingle with the saints. They know whom they serve, and God knows them. They pay obeisance to the powers that sent them, even if they openly confess their love for God.
A man’s allegiance can be known by the company he keeps. The associations he maintains reveal who he truly is. Can two walk together unless they agree?
You cannot love God with a greedy heart unless you are only pretending to love Him for reasons best known to you.
It is not a lack of money that leads to stealing or coveting another person’s property. It is the spirit of greed, which is under the control of the spirit of mammon. That is why you see rich politicians who are not content, yet still go ahead to loot the public treasury. You will know the price they paid to get there by the level of covetousness they exhibit.
No wonder Jesus said, “How difficult it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God,” for the laws and ordinances of the kingdom of God do not permit greed to thrive.
Jesus told the rich man to get rid of his greed and distribute his possessions to improve the lives of the poor around him. Until a man overthrows the spirit of greed, God will have no place in his life, for God and greed cannot inhabit the same space.
It is only those who know that God is the Lord of their lives who will possess the spirit of contentment, and through this, godliness follows.
The master you obey is the one in charge of your life. When you obey sin, it takes control of your actions. When you obey the voice of God according to His written Word, you are following after righteousness.
This is why you may see someone who will not come to church for worship on Sunday because he has a contract to sign that day. It does not necessarily mean that he doesn’t love God, but his actions confirm that he has found something to love more than God, which he believes is more profitable than God.
He places his desire in first position and places God as his second option.
God allows some people to obtain their earthly desires so that their true allegiance may be revealed. You can know the kind of god a person reveres most when he finally obtains what his soul desires.
Many ministers who started well failed to finish well because their hands eventually obtained what they had secretly aspired to. That is when their love for God grew cold, along with their desire to follow His perfect will.
God knew this all along. He used their secret desires to expose their allegiance. God cannot be mocked; whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap.
People may pity you when the rod of judgment descends upon you, but your heart tells you where you truly belong.
The Bible says how difficult it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. They may appear to men as if they had entered, yet remain outside all this while. The road leading there is very narrow. It cannot accommodate you with your lusts and your secret, sinful desires. Unless these are laid at the foot of the cross, you will struggle all your life to enter, yet it will not be possible, for a man cannot serve two masters.
Since you followed the lust of the devil, his destination also becomes yours. No controversy about this.
Prayer: Father lord, pull down the strongholds of mammon from the heart of your children in Jesus name.
