RETURN TO THY GOD O ISRAEL!

Hosea 14:1: “O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou art fallen by thine iniquity.”

From the time of their inception, beginning with Abraham, through their entry into Egypt as slaves and their eventual redemption from slavery, the Israelites were under the government of God, who was their King.

However, the Israelites eventually demanded human kings to reign over them, thereby rejecting God’s direct rule over them. Likewise, the Church of God, which was purchased with the precious blood of Jesus Christ, has Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour. He is the Bridegroom of the Church, who paid the price for her with His own blood and ascended to heaven to prepare mansions for her in His Father’s house.

Tragically, the Church is repeating the same error for which Israel was rebuked. She has rejected the leadership and supremacy of Jesus Christ, introducing other gods through human doctrines to take His place and turning the house of God into a marketplace. What a dangerous departure from the very purpose for which Christ purchased His Church!

The Church represents spiritual Israel in this generation. She is the body of people delivered from the captivity of the devil and transferred into God’s kingdom of light. We have been called to be His ambassadors and His end-time army, bearing His divine seal as witnesses to the nations of the earth. We were not redeemed to pursue the pleasures of this world, but to fulfil the will and purpose of God.

Yet, the Church is gradually abandoning her divine assignment for counterfeit pursuits that have nothing to do with the salvation of souls. We are replacing eternal values with temporary attractions, and the consequences of this departure are more serious than many are willing to admit.

We have elevated human doctrines above the divine laws that govern the Most High’s heritage. We have replaced the commandments of God with teachings that cater to the desires of the flesh rather than promote the spiritual welfare of His people. When the traditions of men take precedence over the Word of God, the authority of Christ is being challenged, regardless of how religious those traditions may appear.

We have forsaken the fountain of living waters and hewn out broken cisterns that can hold no water, to our own detriment. We have abandoned the source of life in pursuit of substitutes that cannot satisfy our souls. Who will deliver us from the deception of our carnal nature if we refuse to acknowledge that we have departed from the truth?

Jesus is calling His saints back to their first love. He is calling us to repent, amend our ways, and return to the truth before the day of the Lord draws nearer. This is not the time to defend our errors, justify our compromises, or conceal our spiritual decline behind religious activities. It is time to examine ourselves in the light of God’s Word and return to Him with genuine repentance.

A bride must remain faithful to her Bridegroom if she does not want to be ashamed at His coming. Likewise, a son must return to his father if he does not want to remain in the misery of a far country, feeding on what is given to pigs. There is no honour in remaining far from the Father while claiming the privileges of sonship. It is time to arise, return, and be reconciled to Him.

We have introduced things that are not of God into our fellowship with Him. We have permitted practices rooted in human preferences and religious inventions under the guise of worship, even when they have no foundation in His Word. Some justify these practices by claiming that they do not matter as long as the name of Jesus is mentioned. But who gave us the authority to introduce what God has not commanded and then demand that He accept it?

The mention of the name of Jesus does not automatically sanctify everything done in His name. We cannot use His name to legitimise practices that contradict His Word. God must be worshipped in spirit and in truth, not according to the inventions of men.

We have borrowed the ways of Babylon into our ministries while attempting to sing the Lord’s song in a strange land. We cannot embrace the values, methods, and ambitions of a corrupt world and still expect to preserve the purity of our calling. The Church cannot compromise with the spirit of Babylon and claim to remain untouched by its corruption.

The doctrines of men have replaced the doctrines of God’s Word, which are essential to our spiritual existence. We have shifted our allegiance from the authority of Christ to the words of religious leaders who, like the elders described in Scripture, may bow secretly to idols while maintaining an outward appearance of devotion to God. What a terrible contradiction! The temple may still be standing, the religious activities may continue, and the people may still gather, yet the heart may have departed from the living God.

Gradually, the Church is moving from faith towards apostasy as people abandon the true way and embrace false paths. A departure from the truth does not become acceptable simply because it is popular, widely practised, or endorsed by influential religious leaders. The standard remains the Word of God, and every doctrine, practice, and ministry must be examined in its light.

Sometimes, God’s way of providing wealth differs from man’s expectations. A request for riches may not be granted because God knows that the riches could become a means of gratifying the flesh rather than fulfilling His purpose. Instead of submitting to His wisdom and waiting upon Him, some turn to the god of riches, despising the very God who delivered them from perdition.

If the God you serve has not chosen to make you wealthy at this time, you must learn to trust His wisdom and timing. He knows what is best for your life, and His purposes are not governed by human impatience or worldly standards of success. His thoughts towards His people are for good and not for evil, to give them an expected end. Do not allow the desire for what God has not yet given you to drive you into the hands of another master.

Beware! The pursuit of wealth can become a form of idolatry when it takes the place of God in your heart. When riches become more important than righteousness, prosperity more important than holiness, and material possessions more desirable than eternal life, you have lost sight of the purpose of your redemption.

Because of greed for riches, many congregations have become dens of fraudsters, where people are exploited in the name of the prosperity gospel. The pulpit, which should be used to proclaim the truth, is being turned into an instrument of manipulation. The congregation, which should be taught the way of salvation, is being lured by promises of material prosperity. The name of God is being used to advance human greed, while the souls of men are being neglected.

This is a call to repentance, not a call to compromise. Return to the foundation! Return to the old paths! Return to the unadulterated Word of God! We must reject every doctrine, practice, and pursuit that draws us away from Christ and His purpose for our lives. The old paths are not defined by mere human traditions, but by the ancient truth of God’s Word, where the soul finds rest and the Prince of Peace reigns.

Jeremiah 6:16 declares: “Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.”

Finally, examine your reasons for going to church. If you seek something other than Christ and salvation from sin, you must seriously reconsider the path you are following. If material gain, social recognition, earthly influence, or personal ambition has become your primary motivation for serving God, you have departed from the purpose of your calling.

You cannot abandon the true God in pursuit of His gifts and still claim to be walking faithfully with Him. Do not exchange the Giver for His gifts, the truth for human inventions, or eternal life for temporary gain. Do not allow the blessings you desire to become the idols that destroy your relationship with God.

O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God, for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity!

The call is clear. The warning is urgent. The way back is repentance. Return to thy God before thy departure becomes thy destruction.

Prayer: My Father and my God, call me back to yourself lest I get lost in the pursuit of worldly pleasures, in Jesus name, amen.
