Spiritual Growth or Death is a sobering Christian exhortation that contrasts true life in Christ with spiritual stagnation. Using biblical metaphors of planting, growth, and fruitfulness, the message emphasizes that every believer must respond to the quickening power of Christ through repentance, obedience, and spiritual maturity. It warns that a lack of growth reflects spiritual death and challenges Christians to examine their lives by the Word of God, pursue holiness, and bear fruit that glorifies God and draws others into His kingdom.
John 5:21 ( For as the Father raised up the dead, and quickened whom he will; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will)
If something is planted and there is no sign of growth, it means the thing won’t survive; it’s just a matter of time.
To protect your plants, they need to be cultivated and fertilized, and constant weeding and watering to make them grow to your expectations.
The world is God’s farm. He planted humans in good soil, expecting a plentiful harvest, but unfortunately, most have died before they take off. No signs of life or signs of growth; they prefer to live with the congregation of the dead.
All humans are dead on arrival, they’re bound by sin and the power of the flesh is in charge of their lives.
Jesus came to establish his kingdom to bring many out of their grave and transfer them to his marvelous light.
After you have been ministered to and claim to receive the power of the holy Spirit, if you are not growing as expected of you and remain in a spot spiritually, that means you’re not responsive to the quickening power of the blood of the Lamb, which put your abode with the spirit of the dead.
Some Christians are in the spiritual realm, dwelling in the grave; they’re still detained by the power of the grave, and they don’t take cognizance of it.
They wonder why their life isn’t moving, and their spiritual life remains stagnant. If they check their life with the mirror of the Word, they will see that they are not truly living.
Not all plants grow anyway; they will just be counted as things that will be wasted with the tares.
A growing plant that doesn’t bring fruit but take ground to expand is the same as one that refuses to germinate and come out of the ground, both are still in the assembly of the dead.
This is the situation of many in the church; they learn and are taught by the holy Spirit, but their spiritual man isn’t responsive, because the dead can’t grasp the teaching of life.
A plant that refuses to grow is already saying it’s dead; no amount of spiritual fertilizer can sustain the person who deliberately refuses to repent and grow.
Lack of growth in a believer indicates lack of repentance, even if they repented, they’re not different from the seed planted in a land of thorns, when the deceitfulness of riches and the anxiety of everyday life will choke it and die.
Unfortunately, we have seen many people in the Christian world whose daily lives are not different from unbelievers, and you wonder whether these people are born again or have they ever experienced the power of resurrection?
It’s either that they are planted on a thorn-infested land, or by the roadside, or on a rock that has no root, but withers at the scorching of the sun.
It’s the seed planted on the good ground that will grow and bring forth fruits in hundreds and thousands fold. The fruit of the character will reveal who they are, and the fruit of their life, when their character and their words bring more people into the kingdom of God.
Unbelievers are not reading their Bible, but they read the life of a believer and want to be like them. But if your salt becomes saltless, what shall we do but throw it down and be trampled upon by men?
When you see a child of ten years that doesn’t know how to talk or walk, and it’s the parents that are still feeding him from hand to mouth, you’ll know that there are problems; it’s a matter of time before the child goes back to where he came from.
How can a Christian of ten years still have the character of a baby Christian? All that he does is not different from unbelievers; he still continues doing it, he lies, steals, manipulates, and does all sorts of things that glorify the flesh.
If there is no change whatsoever, it only indicates death in his surroundings; it’s a matter of time before his obituary is announced.
It’s either you grow or remain in the assembly of the dead, no middle ground.
If you don’t listen to the voice of resurrection and life, it only means that your spirit man is dead and you are expecting to partake in the second death if you want to remain in that state.
A Christian who is alive remains dead to the things of the world, dead to the activity of the flesh and the world of Satan. If your souls still respond to the things of the world, you are alive to the flesh and manifest its character.
A spiritually dead person won’t respond to the things of the spirit; the way of the cross remains foolish to those who tread the path of destruction.
You know you’re alive in the spirit by the way your spirit man rejoices in the things of God and aspires to know him more and more daily.
The more you learn at his feet, the more your soul is detached from everything that constitutes a nuisance to your spiritual advancement.
That’s the more you aspire to grow and reach the level of the stature of Christ.
Your soul will yearn for God and desire to live forever in his presence, and the more the power of sin loosens its hold and the more sin looks detestable in your sight.
These are the attributes of those who desire spiritual growth, and God will release the host of heaven to assist them in their journey to his presence.
Prayer: My Father and my God, remove anything that is constituting a nuisance to my spiritual growth in Jesus’ name, amen.
