The way we bring people to Christ is below the standard that Christ set and different from what he preached to bring men to the presence of God.
We sell Christ for gain and preach the goodies they’ll gain by following Him, but we do not tell them the pros and cons and the sacrifices they need to make to see His face.
That’s why some people get discouraged when things get tough, as they’re not expecting what is coming their way.
We stop seeking Him to seek the things of life the moment he brought us out of the dunghill of life; instead of stepping on the solid rock of His Word, we remain on the sandy ground of the flesh to seek what is not beneficial to our souls.
It’s not only sin, or something’s dangerous to the spiritual life that you must give up but things that don’t add to your spiritual life but beneficial to your carnality. You need to let go to press further to reach your expected ending in divine programs.
Whatever is of benefit to your flesh but dangerous to your soul, you need to let go and let God have preeminence.
There are things important to us that we need to give up for the sake of following Christ, anything that’ll block our relationship with God and obstruct our advancement in the journey of faith.
Nothing can take the place of God; He doesn’t want rivalry; whatever is competing with Him in your life should give way for the advancement of His cause that’ll elevate you to the stature of Christ in growth.
Some give away the most horrible things but still hold onto things that boast their ego, things like titles, worldly connections, and whatever they still keep in their belongings should God fail.
Abraham gave up His family and even gave up his only son on Mount Moriah to fulfill the purpose of God; while the widow of Zarephath gave up her last meal, even Elisha the prophets gave up his oxen to follow the call of Elijah, these are not necessarily evil but might become a hindrance to what God desires to do with their lives.
It’s on a level to leave the story of when I was a drunkard and addicted to the story of abandoning the things that boast ego to abide in the knowledge of Christ.
Are you still angry whenever they call you by your name without adding your title?
Are you not angry with brethren when they ask you to pray for little children who won’t know your spiritual value when the CEOs of companies are there, and you want to show your relevance to them?
Are you still flaunting your doctorate degree in the secular world with your Reverend title to gain respect among your comrades in Christian service?
Wherever they invited you for ministration, you let them know how far you’ve gone in the secular world and the achievements you regretted letting go of because of the ministry.
These are the little foxes that spoiled the vine; all these worldly achievements are a way of bringing you back to the world if you’re not ready to cut it off.
Apostle Paul was a lawyer, and a pharisee trained by Gamaliel one of the chief priests who persecuted the Christians of his days, a tribe of Benjamin, Jew of the Jews, he glory not in all these but turned himself into a tent maker to be able to follow the reason he was created…to be continued.
